Hang at eye level and mean it

Relate the art to the furniture, not the wall

A picture above a sofa should be roughly two-thirds of the sofa’s width, and its lower edge should sit 15–25cm above the back. Sizing to the wall instead of to the furniture is what makes a room feel unresolved.

Pick one unifying element for a gallery wall

Same frame colour with mixed art, or same art style with mixed frames — one or the other, not neither. Consistency in a single dimension is what turns a collection into an arrangement.

Leave one wall empty

Rooms need somewhere for the eye to rest. An empty wall is not an unfinished wall; it is what makes the decorated ones read as deliberate.
